How To Create a Window

There is no right or wrong way to dress a window. Everything is determined by your personal taste and preference. You are only limited by your imagination. Everything begins with an empty window.

STEP 1:

Select your hardware

Once you have decided upon a window treatment style, select the hardware that best compliments your selection. Each of our hardware designs feature a unique finish and finial. You can also add clip rings to achieve multiple looks.

STEP 2:

Measure and mark

Using a metal tape measure, measure the height of your window treatments from the desired point (floor, window sill, etc.). Measure on each side of the window to ensure that the window hardware is straight. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall on each side of the window, at the correct height.

Once you have marked the height, you need to measure the width. One factor to consider when measuring width is the "stackback", a term that refers to how much space is needed on either side of the window. Heavier fabrics and wider windows require more stackback than lighter-weight fabric on narrow windows.

For most fabrics, you should allow approximately one-third of the width of the window for the stackback. If the fabric is bulky, you may need an extra inch or two. For ideal results, have the rod extend three to four inches from the window frame on each side. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall at the correct width. You may want to use a level to make sure the marks are straight.

STEP 3:

Layer for a complete look

Now that you have your window treatments and hardware, accent with a sheer for added dimension. Layering a window is effortless and the end results are stunning. Never underestimate the power of tiebacks. Ours are both beautiful and functional.

STEP 4:

Personalize your style

Here is where you can make a personal statement. You can finish the window with a valance or choose to show off your hardware and hang panels alone. For an unexpected twist use our decorative jewelry jewelry which will add a unique finishing touch.
